About the Artist
Dennis James Meacham is currently an Elementary General Music Teacher at Two-Way Language Immersion at Barbour in Rockford Illinois. Dennis is excited to bring music education to a young and diverse group of students. Additionally, Dennis is a performing artist performing solo recitals, chamber music concerts, and large ensemble concerts with the Pegasus Wind Symphony. Dennis graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2020 with a Master’s degree in Tuba Performance. While studying with Professor Scott Tegge Dennis received an Artistic Talent Tuition Waiver through the school of music. As part of this waiver, he performed with the NIU Philharmonic and the Wind Ensemble where he acted as the principal tubist. In addition to the philharmonic, Dennis also performed in chamber ensembles.
Dennis graduated from the Hugh A Glauser School of Music at Kent State University in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Tuba Performance. While at Kent, Dennis studied privately with Professor Kenneth Heinlein and acted as the principal tubist in the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and the Orchestra. Furthermore, Dennis founded several chamber ensembles including a Brass Quintet and a Low Brass Trio while studying under Professor Heinlein. He also participated in New Music, premiering works by composition students at Kent.
Aside from his role as a performer, Dennis has the pleasure of teaching various age levels from pre-school to post-retirement. He finds it rewarding to teach a variety of age levels and finds he has just as much to learn from his students as they do from him. Dennis currently has his own private studio of students, in addition to being the Low Brass Specialist and Lessons Teacher at The Instrument Barn in Huntley, Illinois.
In his role as an educator, Dennis strives to teach key fundamental skills, such as focus, effective practice strategies, and perseverance. Dennis has taught students just starting their instrument, to retired musicians who want to continue having fun and follow a lifelong love of music.
